What does Portfolio Plus mean for students?

Students will be able to demonstrate what they have learned in the arts through a variety of assessment activities, including traditional and alternative modes. Traditional modes of responding on standardized tests include selected response (i.e. matching, multiple choice, true/false, check all responses that apply, and mark a visual field). The second type is constructed response (i.e. fill in the blank, short answer, label a diagram, visual representation, and show your work) where students are asked to respond in their own words.

Achievement of all learning outcomes cannot be measured by traditional means. Alternative assessment modes, such as performance-based and portfolio assessments, are included in Portfolio Plus. Theses modes provide ways to obtain a more comprehensive picture of student learning, and they allow students with cultural and language differences to more fairly demonstrate learning. Students are asked to perform tasks that require tangible evidence of creating, performing, and responding behaviors, and they are able to reflect on their own progress.
